Reverse engineering helps restore a vintage car radio

FabLab Technical Specialist Evan Moore has just recreated the radio buttons, having reverse engineered the design from one of the remining ones.  After much research he also sourced a resin that not only replicated the originals’ colour but also their distinctive rubbery feel.

Car owner Steve said:

‘I’m delighted to have had Evan reproduce some buttons and trims to replace missing and damaged parts on a 50 year old car radio. Not only has he got the texture right but it would be difficult to tell the copies from the originals they’re so accurate. Brilliant job! Add to the fact he’s a nice chap too you have a great asset in him.’
